Flute Beginner through College
B.A., M.A. Music Performance In teaching, I focus on the foundations of good breathing and relaxed finger technique, both to contribute to a beautiful, consistent sound in all registers, vibrato, scales and arpeggios, music theory, and efficient practice habits. My main desire is to bring students to a fulfilling lifelong enjoyment, confidence, and comfort of playing to the extent that the flute will feel like an actual part of themselves, giving them freedom to sing, interpret, and express music from their very souls.

A teacher should not only teach a skill, but should impart knowledge in a way that furthers the student’s ability to assess and teach themselves. I want my students to have a solid enough understanding of their craft that they can effectively share knowledge of music with others. I strive to constantly question students about their knowledge and encourage them to explain to me, in their own words, details of their musical knowledge. A good lesson is more of a dialogue than a lecture. I learn more from my students than they learn from me!
